Our colleague Edwin is Mexican by birth but Barcelona is in his heart. Nachos with Romesco cause you could say.
He graduated as a Lawyer from the Universidad Pública de Navarra and although his first jobs were in traditional law firms, he was always interested in new technologies.
Our lawyer is the lawyer for all our colleagues because he also resolves our personal legal queries. He likes to listen to music all day, eat out in the city and enjoy the best tequila, whenever there is an occasion to do so.
If you want to find out more about Edwin, the lawyer who commands the same respect whether he’s in a suit jacket or trainers, don’t miss his interview in this post.

Meet our Legal Department Manager, Edwin Mata
1. How did you discover Signaturit?
As a lawyer I had the opportunity to advise technological companies but I wanted to form part of a young company with lots of potential and contribute my grain of sand to the legal sector in a groundbreaking start-up.
I applied to Signaturit to see from the inside the potential that a technological tool like our electronic signature has in classic sectors like mine, law.
2. How would you describe your work?
I work so that our products and services always comply with all regulatory and legal requirements. I am also the person responsible for ensuring that we are internally covered for any risk and in this way prevent possible events.
In addition, I manage audits to obtain internationally recognised certificates and be able to offer greater confidence to all our customers and users. The most important thing for us is to safeguard the confidentiality, integrity and availability of our products and services.
3. What is the overall purpose of your position?
More than a purpose I would say there is a daily objective: to provide legal cover to the company and ensure the safeguarding of legality. As Signaturit is a LegalTech company, regulatory compliance has always been and always will be one of our main priorities.
4. What do you like most about working in the Legal Department?
What I like the most about working at Signaturit is the clash of thoughts and methods in which things take place. From these agreements, new ideas always arise.
I left my comfort zone behind and try to legally innovate in the same way that Signaturit does technologically.
5. How is a typical day in Signaturit for you?
Resolve, attend and prevent is my day-to-day: resolve legal issues that are brought to me by different departments; attend meetings to cover all legal nuances that may arise during an agreement and ensure we comply with the regulations and standards under which we are governed. All this without breaking the culture of the company and being creative to improve objectives and processes.
6. What do you value most about working in Signaturit?
The work environment. Having the possibility to go to work in a place where you like to be. I enjoy being in an optimum environment to grow personally and intellectually.
7. What are your biggest challenges in Signaturit?
To never fall into regulatory non-compliance and obtain all the certificates that are fundamental to provide maximum confidence to our clients.
At the end of the day, one of our objectives is to provide LegalTech tools which allow different sectors to accelerate and protect their communication processes with full legal validity. To do this, we have to be the first to comply with the maximum legal and technical requirements.
8. What do you like most about working in such an innovative sector?
What I like the most is that there is no ceiling. Being a lawyer, the limits are marked by the law but by working in a cutting-edge company the barriers are more relative.
For example, witnessing the birth of the blockchain at Signaturit to offer smart contracts is an experience that I am sure will mark a before and after in my professional life.
9. What are the characteristics of a Signabuddy for you?
Entrepreneur and in search of continuous improvement. If technology has no limits, we don’t either.
10. What would you recommend for future Signabuddies?
Don’t stay in your comfort zone and experiment. An error is only an error if you see it as one and it stops you in your tracks. I believe that in a technology company like ours, errors are tests through which you learn and improve until you reach your objectives.
